El Salvador’s National Commission of Digital Assets (CNAD) announced that its president, Juan Carlos Reyes, participated in Gibraltar Finance Centre meetings in London at the invitation of Minister Nigel Feetham.
The meetings followed the cooperation framework previously established between CNAD and the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission.
Discussions focused on El Salvador’s experience developing specialized digital asset regulation and the technical expertise required to supervise blockchain-based financial activities.
Why does this matter?
Cooperation among regulators can support information sharing, supervisory knowledge, and a more informed understanding of cross-border business models.
For international companies considering regulated operations in El Salvador, these developments highlight the country’s continuing engagement with other financial jurisdictions.
However, regulatory cooperation does not establish automatic recognition or portability of licenses.
An authorization obtained under El Salvador’s Digital Assets Issuance Law does not, by itself, authorize a company to market financial products or provide regulated services in every country where it operates.
Companies must assess local licensing, securities, anti-money-laundering, tax, and marketing requirements separately.
LEAD Observatory perspective
The immediate development is institutional cooperation. Any future operational or commercial benefits will depend on specific measures adopted by the relevant authorities.
